About

Hello! I’m Natasha Akery, an educator who thrives on fostering learning, connection, and growth through restorative practices. As a secondary language arts teacher, professional developer, and restorative practitioner, I’m dedicated to creating spaces where students and educators alike feel inspired and supported.

I’ve been honored to receive recognition for my work, including being named Academic Magnet High School’s 2022 Teacher of the Year and serving as a finalist for Charleston County School District’s Teacher of the Year that same year. From 2022 to 2024, I was privileged to work with fellow educators on the district’s Teacher Roundtable, collaborating to improve education across our community.

I graduated from the College of Charleston in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies. Currently, I’m pursuing a master’s degree in restorative practices through the International Institute for Restorative Practices, deepening my commitment to this transformative work.

Outside of my professional life, I am a haiku poet, mother, and wife. My husband, Matt, and I have two beautiful daughters, Eleanor and Jane, who inspire me to positively impact the world they live in.
